Day of Slavic Writing and Culture
Every year on May 24, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. The holiday was established in accordance with the Presidential Decree and is dedicated to honoring the memory of Cyril and Methodius - missionary brothers who laid the foundation for the development of writing in the Slavs.
Around 862, in a Greek monastery, they created the Slavic alphabet, which was named "Cyrillic" - in honor of Constantine (in monasticism - Cyril). The older brother, Methodius, helped in this mission. In addition to Cyrillic, they also developed Glagolitic - another type of Slavic alphabet.
The Orthodox Church honors Cyril and Methodius as equal apostles, and their contribution to Slavic culture is celebrated as one of the foundations of the spiritual and educational development of the peoples of the region.
World Video Game Day
May 24 is a special day for gamers around the world. It was on this day in 1972 that Magnavox introduced the first home game console, Odyssey, developed under the leadership of Ralph Baer. Since then, digital entertainment has become an integral part of culture.

Currently, there are more than 300 national parks in Europe, and the task of this day is to popularize their importance, support nature conservation activities and encourage society to participate in the preservation of ecosystems. On this day, thematic events, excursions, lectures and educational initiatives are held in and around natural areas.
Among the most popular national parks in Europe are Plitvice Lakes in Croatia, Saxon Switzerland in Germany, Triglav Park in Slovenia, Loch Lomond and Trossachs in Great Britain, Cinque Terre in Italy and Vatnajökull in Iceland.
Every year, the European Day of Parks is held under a new slogan. For example, in 2009 the key theme was youth, in 2010 - biodiversity, in 2011 - volunteering. In 2014, in memory of the 100th anniversary of the First World War, the motto became: "Parks for nature. Parks for welfare. Parks for peace." And in 2016, the theme sounded simply "Taste of nature".

World Schizophrenia Awareness Day
May 24 marks World Schizophrenia Day - an initiative that aims to break down stereotypes and raise awareness of one of the most stigmatized mental disorders.
